Lesson 5.6
Practice Day
Individual practice in preparation for the assessment. Open with 15 minutes of collaborative board work on a single rich challenge problem touching all five navigation instrument rows — coordinate classification combined with identifying a property provable by Euclidean means. After 15 minutes, transition to individual practice self-directed by navigation instrument.
The problem set has 19 problems across all five rows at all three levels. There are more problems than most students will finish — intentionally. Students begin at their honest level on each row and move up as they are ready. Circulate constantly. Watch for: students who can apply formulas but cannot write a proof; students invoking a theorem when they need its converse; students who classify without checking all necessary conditions. Close with 10 minutes naming the two or three most common errors and asking students to update their navigation instrument.
